Our Wedding Day

Our Wedding Day

I walked upon Calusa’s lawns

Subdued and conquered by its charms

The colourful mix of flowers there

Invoked an aura bright and fair.

A bride needs space and time to dress

And time to pause and take a rest

So when I reached Calusa’s gate

I knew my bride would get there late.

So said, so done, it was no fun

My bride this stigma did not shun

And so it was a long, long wait

For she was very, very late.

As though a cause for sudden fright

My bride was nowhere close in sight

But though she was to come quite late

I knew it would be worth the wait.

Greeted like a king by all

I stood outside the wedding hall

And standing there with pride and glee

I waited there my bride to see.

One watchful soul with eyes so keen

Declared aloud “the limousine”

So after that quite long delay

Now starts the highlights of the day.

And that quite large and splendid hall

Was decked with colours to enthrall

The season’s colours of red and green

Invoked a quaint and mystic scene.

As though with strange and sudden craze

With gaze all fixed and cameras raised

Every chance the revellers got

They never failed to take their shots.

So there we stood and took our vows

As no reprieve time would allow

And it was such a sobering thing

When we exchanged those golden rings.

The M. C. came from lands afar

And took the stage just like a star

And he with his cute verbal flair

Kept the guests amused and in good cheer.

They came from wide and far to share

In this quite quaint and grand affair

They ate, they laughed and poked their jokes

At us as newly married folks.

It was fun, great fun I’d say

We had upon our Wedding Day

And after all was said and done

The best, my friends, was yet to come.
