Activism
No longer shall I stand aside
And watch my fellows die
For somewhere in my heart abides
An urge I can’t deny.
With eager will I now respond
To this compelling urge
To stand up tall and lend a hand
To stem the criminal surge.
I shall now take a message of peace
To every soul I meet
Until the murder mania cease
And the criminals face defeat.
As an advocate of peace
I can help to end the war
For my vigilance I shall increase
In spreading peace near and far.
When I see a quarrel start
I shall not be amused
But rather rise and play my part
The tension to defuse.
And when I see the tempers flare
And some exchanging blows
I shall not idly laugh or stare
Instead make friends of foes.
For many a time if someone brave
Had only intervened
A brother or a sister could be saved
From violence to their being.
I shall expose the guns and knives
To those who ought to know
For I could very well save lives
By quietly doing so.
I shall expose the weapons hidden
To those who can disarm
For they are by our laws forbidden
And can cause much deadly harm.
And should I ever be aware
Of a plot to harm or kill
I shall this “info” quietly share
And not just remain still.
I would feel very bad indeed
To know that a fellow is hurt
When I could’ve alerted someone to heed
The threat for what it’s worth.
When I see a wrong thing done
I shall be a witness true
And not just stand aside or run
For such stance I’ll come to rue.
I can tell whatever I know
And not play dumb or blind
For I do know that by doing so
I could help prevent a crime.
To end this peril we must unite
Around a common plan
For our country now faces a plight
That needs each citizen’s hand.
An enlightened citizen I am
Who wish my country well
And so I’ll do whatever I can
To see the crime wave quell.
When one of us is maimed or killed
It causes grief you know
And I get a rather awful chill
When I see the teardrops flow.
So, “To the task” is what I say
My mission begins now
From henceforth each and every day
To my fellow my peace I vow.
