The testimony of Jesus Christ is on trial in the international tribunal of religious and public opinion. The question of fact to be determined is whether or not the Messiah was wedded. If the 4th century papyrus is considered the smoking gun or the piece of incriminating evidence, an acquittal is assured because the document favours the case of the accused and what is long believed about his marital status.

I dare say the 4th century papyrus contains enough information to confirm or dispute whether or not Jesus Christ was married. It is amazing that despite the fragmented state of the document it contains enough substance to confirm the truth of its content. Much of the document and dialogue are lost but ironically, the truth is preserved!

The claim that Jesus Christ was married is an assertion of humongous proportions as this claim serves to contradict the fundamental and substantive teachings of the Holy Bible and the long held and popular belief that no human bride was lucky or righteous enough to have the Lord’s hand in secular marriage. It is an assertion that is worth addressing lest a fiction is allowed to perpetuate and survive in time as a fact. It is a fundamental statement as it certainly undermines the long held belief that Jesus Christ died a chaste bachelor.

To use eight lines of fragmented sentences to undertake the task of blunting such a forceful emerging belief would seem at best an impractical demonstration of audacity. Ironically, a close and inspired look at the contents of the document proves one thing, if nothing else, and that is, the woman so identified in the text did not share a romantic relationship with Jesus Christ and was not his wife.

Strange enough, or not so strange at all, the fragment of dialogue as captured in the 4th century papyrus only serves to confirm what we already know!
